Lot Description
A late nineteenth century Russian silver open salt of bellied circular form, ornately engraved with flowers and intertwining motifs mounting the stylised scroll feet. Moscow 1871 with the assay master's mark B.C, the maker's mark possibly Andrei Vekmann and a later mark (1927-1958) of a workman's head and hammer facing to the right, 875 and district mark. Diameter measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 3 ozt (94 grams).

Condition Report
The Russian open salt displays general scratches, marks, wear and heavy tarnishing. The engraving appears crisp. A few minor dents. Acid test visible to the underside. Imprints from the feet visible to the interior and the striking of the more recent hallmark also visible to the interior. Further heavier scratches to the interior. The marks are rubbed but legible, makers mark worn.
