Lot 491

Lot Description

Late George III silver pair of berry spoons, each with a floral and scroll embossed bowl with frill rim, with similar floral and foliate decoration to the stem leading to a vacant oval cartouche terminal, hallmarked Samuel Godbehere, Edward Wigan & James Boult, London 1818;  together with an Irish silver sifter spoon with floral, foliate and scroll embossing to the pierced bowl and similar engraved motifs to the stem, hallmarked Christopher Haines, Dublin 1774.  All in a fitted case.  Gross combined weight 5.29 ozt (164.6 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All three items display general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  The decoration on the berry spoons appears to be fairly good, although there is some loss of detail to the reverse of the terminal and the metal appears thinner in this area.  There is a little bit more wear to the edges and tips of the bowls, with some minor rim nicks.  Gilding on the bowls is quite worn in places.  Maker's marks to both are partly distorted but hallmarks still clear and legible.  Sifter spoon is in similar condition, metal appears thinner towards the terminal and there is a seam line visible on the reverse of the stem, about half way down.  Bowl was probably once gilded but this is now quite worn.  Hallmarks clear and legible.
