Both dishes are very tarnished and display general wear and surface marks and scratches.  Various nicks in the metal and numerous deeper and longer scratches, especially to the centre and underside of each dish.  Dishes are probably butter dishes but are now missing the glass sections.  Hallmarks to both are slightly rubbed but still legible.
