Lot Description

George II Scottish silver coffee pot of tapering baluster form, the main body embossed and chased all over with flowers and foliage amidst scroll motifs and surrounding an asymmetrical crested cartouche to one side and a vacant cartouche to the other, with conforming decoration to the base of the spout and hinged lid, pineapple finial to the high domed lid, the whole with a fruit wood handle and raised above a spreading footed base.  Hallmarked Robert Gordon, Edinburgh 1751. Height including finial measures 9 inches (23 cm), gross weight 25.74 ozt (800.6 grams).

Coffee pot displays general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  Some more visible scratches in places and various minor surface nicks and dints and especially to edges and rims.  Repair to base of spout, which is predominantly visible on the exterior, there is some loss of detail and flooding of the solder.  It shows as a dark line to interior.  Hinged lid in good working order.  Hallmarks are to the underside, maker's mark is a little distorted but still legible, other marks very clear.  No hallmarks to the hinged lid.    


In addition to the condition report, there is also some solder and loss of detail visible to one side of the joins of the handle.
