Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette of plain form with personal name engraving and opening to reveal a floral pierced grille, hallmarked Joseph Willmore Birmingham 1806. Together with a George IV silver vinaigrette with engine turned decoration, reeded edge, initialled cartouche, with a scroll foliate pierced gilt grille, hallmarked John Bettridge Birmingham 1823 and a George III silver pill box of tonneau form engraved interwoven decoration surround to the initialled cartouche and pricked borders, hallmarked Birmingham 1814 with the makers mark I.T.  Gross weight 40.8 grams. The first vinaigrette appears in quite poor condition along with general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing, particular areas of deterioration to the gilt interior, the hinges are loose, particularly the grille hinge, the piercing to the grille appears a little crude, the hallmarks distorted but legible, personal engraving to the outer case is rubbed, repair visible to the outer case with particular damage around the hinge. The second vinaigrette appears in better condition displaying general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing, heavier tarnishing and wear to the base of the gilt interior, the body does not quite sit flush when closed, the hallmarks a little distorted but legible. The pill box displays general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing, some creasing and pitting visible, the hinge loose, particular damage to the hinge and a repair visible to the corner, teh hallmarks lightly distorted but clearly legible.
