Lot Description
Victorian silver mounted glass claret jug, the main body of tapering flat bottomed form and etched with floral garlands and butterflies, the silver collar with diamond pierced border, engraved decoration and an oval panel for Walton on Thames Regatta with a swan to the centre, the flat hinged lid with beaded rim and presentation engraving, with foliate pierced detail to thumb piece and handle. Silver hallmarked Mappin & Webb (John Newton Mappin & George Webb), London 1871. Maximum height including thumb piece measures 9 1/2 inches (24 cm).

Condition Report
Item displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use. Some tarnishing to the silver and also some loss of detail to the decoration in places. Hinged cover in good working order. Presentation engraving reads 'Junior Pairs July 8th 1871 Won by Fred C Watts. Horizontal crack is visible half way down the inside of the handle. Numerous deeper and more visible scratches to the glass body, especially the lower part. Main hallmarks to collar and part hallmarks to interior of lid are clear and legible.
