Great War, casualty Military Medal Group to L/Cpl R Jeffrey, Machine Gun Corps, formerly Royal Highlanders, comprising Military Medal (to 24486 L/Cpl R Jeffrey), 1914 star, War and Victory Medal (to 1538 Cpl R Jeffery, 1/5 R Highlandrs).
Robert Jeffrey was born as Robert Jaffray on 7th October 1896 at Brechin (Forfarshire), the son of a millworker. He enlisted there into D Company, the Black Watch, and volunteered for overseas service in November 1914. At the time of his death he was serving with 154th Company Machine Gun Corps. His MM was gazetted on 18th June 1917, and he died of wounds in Flanders on 23rd November 1917, aged 21. He is buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery, Manancourt, France.
