Lot Description

Victorian silver baroque style sugar basket of cylindrical tapered form with symmetrical pierced scroll open work, swing handle, blue glass liner and raised above a circular spread based. Hallmarked Joseph Angell I & Joseph Angell II London 1846. Height measuring 5 1/2 inches (14 cm), gross silver weight 8.73 ozt (271 grams).

The sugar basket appears in good overall condition displyaing general scratches, marks and wear. Heavy tarnishing to some parts of the piercing. Minor nibble to the edge of the blue glass liner only noticeable under close inspection. The cartouche is currently vacant, possible previous engraving has been removed. The hallmarks are clear and legible, maker's mark and lion passant partly rubbed, part marks visible to the handle.
