Lot Description

William IV silver swing handled basket, of oval form with shaped rim ornately embossed with fruiting vine and with lobed detail to the interior of the dish, the single scrolled handle decorated with acanthus leaf motifs, the whole standing on a shaped oblong foot with conforming lobed decoration.  Hallmarked James Dixon & Son, Sheffield 1833.  Maximum length of dish measures 13 1/4 inches (33.5 cm), weight 36.42 ozt (1132.8 grams).

The basket displays general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with the age and use.  There are some deeper and longer scratches visible to the interior of the dish and also some minor nicks.  There are also some small surface dints and some of these dints are also visible to the underside of the dish.  The embossed fruiting vine border appears to be in good condition and the swing handle in working order.  Hallmarks clear and legible.  Scratched number 3604 to the underside of the dish.
