Lot Description

A late nineteenth century Dutch silver bread basket of oval form with pierced and engraved body, reeded borders and lion mask and ring handles. Hallmarked with the lion passant for .833 standard silver, Minerva head and the date letter for 1884, alongside possible further pseudo marks. Length measuring 10 inches (25.5 cm), weight 15.8 ozt (493 grams).

The basket appears in good overall condition displaying general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. There appears to have been some repairs to the rim of the basket, along the seam, predominately with pitting to the solder seam. The hallmarks are clear and legible. No personal engravings.
