Lot 507

Lot Description

George III silver pair of berry spoons in Old English Pattern, each bowl with frilled rim and embossed to the centre with pineapple, berries and other fruit, the stem engraved and punched with foliate and other decorative motifs, hallmarked Peter & William Bateman, London 1810, in a fitted case with a similar Victorian Scottish silver sifter spoon, hallmarked William Marshall, Edinburgh 1866;  together with a further George III silver berry spoon in Hanoverian pattern, hallmarked London 1789 or 1809.  Combined weight 6.53 ozt (203.2 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

All four pieces display general wear, tarnishing and surface marks and scratches, all commensurate with the age and use.  Some deeper, more visible scratches to some areas and also various minor nicks and small surface dints.  The bowls have generally faired quite well, although there is more wear to the frilled edges.  They were also probably once gilded but this is now worn.  Some slight distortion in places but the hallmarks are mainly legible.
