Condition Report
Both boxes display general wear and surface marks and scratches commensurate with age and use. Numerous deeper and more visible scratches to both boxes and some small nicks in the tortoiseshell, especially around the rims. There is some tarnishing to the silver gilt hinges on the smaller box and also some wear to the metal on the other mounts. Hinges and clasp are in good working order, although it is not guaranteed that the lid is original to the box. The other box displays more damage to the tortoiseshell with quite large chips to some areas. There is a repair to one side as it is possible to see a join where a whole piece has been let it. Hinges are in working order, although it does not close tightly and subsequently there is a small gap.
