Lot Description

George III silver snuff box of plain oblong  and curved form, the hinged lid with applied shield and personal inscription 'C. Armstead, Bare', and opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior. Hallmarked John Shaw Birmingham 1809. Length measuring 7.5 cm, weight 72 grams.

The snuff box displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Further deep line scratches around the rim of the base. The two halves do not quite sit flush. Minor dints and bumps, particularly to the corners. The gilding to the interior appears with commensurate wear in keeping with the age and use. The hallmarks are clear and legible.
