Lot 650

Lot Description

George IV silver snuff box with hardstone set base and lid, reeded edge and floral rim opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior. Hallmarked Birmingham 1829, the maker's mark of TS, tentatively attributed to Thomas Shaw. Length measuring 3 inches (7.5 cm), weight 4 ozt (125 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The box displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  The hardstone displays some cracks and small nicks and chips.  The silver is a little tarnished and there is some slight loss of detail to the decoration.  Hinged cover is in working order, although it lifts slightly at one of the front corners.  Contact marks to flange.  The hallmarks appear rubbed but legible, however the maker's mark is partly worn.
