Lot Description

Victorian silver vinaigrette of shaped oval form, foliated engraving surrounding a vacant circular cartouche, the hinged lid opening to reveal a silver-gilt interior with pierced hinged grille, fitted on a modern silver belcher chain. Hallmarked George Unite & Sons Birmingham 1877. Length measuring 2.8 cm, gross weight 1.6 ozt (49 grams).

The vinaigrette appears in good overall condition displaying light general scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing. The outer hinge and clasp perhaps a little loose but perfectly flush. The gilding to the interior appears very light and heavily tarnished to the interior base. The hallmarks are clear and legible. The chain is hallmarked Birmingham 1995 to the loop end and the total length measures75 cm.
