Lot Description

A Victorian silver vinaigrette of slim oblong form, scroll rim, foliate scroll engraving and vacant cartouche, the front case opens to reveal a foliate scroll pierced hinged grille and silver-gilt interior. Hallmarked Edward Smith Birmingham 1853. Length measuring 4.8 cm, weight 23 grams.

The vinaigrette displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Evidence of gilding to the exterior. A little damage and possible repair to the end of the hinge pin. Debris and discolouration to the interior. The lid feels a little loose in the closed position. The hallmarks appear rubbed but legible.
