Lot Description
A silver medal, John Capel, MP for Queenborough, Kent, Election of 10th June, 1826, obverse with bare head facing left, reverse with wreath surrounding dedication inscription, in original box. Diameter of medal measures 43 mm, gross weight 46 grams.
John Capel was a rich London stockbroker, who became MP for Queenborough. It seems the medal was struck for presentation to those who had supported Capel in an election. The reverse of the coin bears an inscription to John G Augers 'One of the 144 Independent Freemen who voted for John Capel Esq.'

Condition Report
Surface marks and scratches visible to both sides and various nicks in the metal visible around the edge. Some deeper scratches are visible, especially on either side of the head. There is some wear to the raised surfaces but they do still retain much of the detail. Pierced for and fitted with a suspension loop. Box is very worn falling apart.
