Lot 362
Lot Description
Jean-Louis Gregoire, French (1840-1890).
An impressive late 19th century French cast patinated bronze figure of Mozart as a boy, tuning his violin, on a shaped base inscribed 'MOZART' and signed "L. Gregoire," stamped 'EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE 1889 MEDAILLE D'OR', mid brown patination, 29", (74cm) high.
Provenance: Deceased estate, Sutton Coldfield. Purchased from a leading Decorative Arts gallery at the Grosvenor Antiques Fair in 2000.
This figure was produced in more than one size: a smaller 21" (53cm) version with later 1900 stamp (indicating a less desirable, posthumous casting) was sold earlier this year at auction in London.
