Lot Description
A 19th century Meissen-type porcelain figure group of Diana and Actaeon, she modelled semi-naked with star-decorated yellow cloak, recumbent in a chariot, he with bare torso, a spear at his feet, Cupid hold aloft a flower basket beneath, a hunting dog at her feet, the naturalistic rocky base with gilt and puce scroll-moulded apron, underglaze blue crossed batons beneath, 12.25" (31cm) high.
In Greek legend, the hunter Actaeon stumbled upon the goddess Diana bathing, and as a punishment she turned him into a stag, he was then pursued by his own hounds to his death.

Condition Report
The yellow cloak has been broken into two pieces and reattached. Tip of dog's tail is missing, and typical minor chips to encrusted flowers in Cupid's basket. Firing crack to one side of base, dark spot to Actaeon's right elbow, minor rubbing and crazing here and there.
