Lot 23

Lot Description

George III plain silver goblet, waisted stem leading to a spreading circular base with reeded rim.  Hallmarked Peter & William Bateman, London 1808.  Height measures 5 3/4 inches (14.5 cm), weight 5.74 ozt (178.7 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The goblet displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Heavy tarnishing is visible and it would benefit from a clean and polish.  Deeper scratches visible to some areas and various minor nicks and pitting marks.  The main rim is slightly misshapen.  The base rim is also slightly misshapen so that it wobbles slightly when standing.  Interior was probably once gilded but this is now faded.  Hallmarks are to the underside and are clear and legible, although the maker's mark is partly worn.
