Lot Description

Late Victorian silver sweetmeat basket of oval form, with beaded decoration to everted rim and single swing handle, the sides pierced with scrolling foliage and geometric patterns interspersed with urn motifs.  Hallmarked John William Caldicott, Birmingham 1895.  Maximum length measures 6 1/4 inches (16 cm), weight 6.55 ozt (203.7 grams).

The dish displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Deeper scratches to some areas and general minor nicks and pitting marks.  There are some slight surface dints, mainly visible to an area of the vertical piercing on one side.  Remnants of polish to some areas.  Swing handle in good working order.  Some slight rubbing but otherwise the hallmarks are clear and legible.
