Lot 478

Lot Description

Late Victorian silver figural table bell, the finial modelled as St George slaying the dragon, the bell decorated with a continuous band of scrolling oak leaves, with clapper.  Hallmarked Berthold Muller & Son, Chester 1899, also with import mark.  Maximum height measures 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), gross weight 2.76 ozt (86 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The bell displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  There is some damage and a possible repair to the figure, in particular to the area where St George is holding the end of the spear.  The spear now has a large bend in it, rather than being straight.  Various nicks, some deeper scratches and some small surface dints visible to the bell section.  The hallmarks are clear and legible.
