Lot 532

Lot Description

A late nineteenth century Russian basket weave cigarette case, of rectangular form, the woven body with strap overlay, RO monogrammed shield shaped cartouche and wirework hinge. Possible marks for Alexander Golovin or Andrei Goryanov, Moscow 1876 and later Polish standard marks. Length 4 inches (10.2 cm). Weight 3.82 ozt (118.6 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. There is a soft solder repair to the hinge, to one of the smaller sides where the basket weave reaches the plain edge and a spot of soft solder to the strapping. The cartouche has lines running across it, possibly from removing a previous monogram. There is slight give to the weaving towards the centre of the piece. The Russian marks appear partly distorted.
