Lot 577

Lot Description

William IV silver snuff box by Nathaniel Mills, of rectangular form with chased and embossed flowers and scrolling foliage to the outward curved sides, the hinged cover with conforming decoration to the shaped border and opening to reveal a gilded interior.  Hallmarked Birmingham 1833.  Measuring 3 inches (7.6 cm) by 2 inches (5 cm).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The snuff box displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Some deeper scratches visible to some areas and some minor nicks.  There are a couple of small holes visible in the decoration, mainly visible in a couple of the flowers on the lid.  Contact marks to flanges, although the interior gilding is still quite bright.  Hinges also appear in good working order.  The hallmarks to the interior are clear and legible.  The overall condition appears fairly good.
