Lot Description
A turn of the century continental white metal keyless wind open face split second chronograph pocket watch, the white dial with hourly applied black Roman numerals, subsidiary sunken seconds and minute dials positioned to six and twelve o'clock, bordered by a minute track with Arabic divisions at five minute intervals, plain round case with a monogram engraved to rear, stamped 0.935, presentation inscription to dust cover, fitted with an unsigned movement with club tooth lever escapement. Case diameter 54mm.
This watch was presented to Sir Thomas Hudson Beare by his staff on leaving University College London to become Regius Professor of Engineering at Edinburgh University in 1901.

Keyless wind pocket watch, movement is currently functioning but chronograph function is at fault, the chronograph train is missing the drive wheel from the extended pivot of the fourth wheel, one of the split second chronograph brake levers may be a replacement, screws show signs of previous intervention and movement is tarnished with discolouration especially noticeable to the split seconds wheel, movement will require restoration by a watchmaker, dial shows dark marks and scratches throughout, hands show discolouration and scratches throughout, glass is scratched and showing residue and there is noticeable dirt along the edge of the glass, case has medium scratches from use, case back is scratched, case back shows personal monogram, side of case shows noticeable residue, dirt and damage from previous opening of the case back, crown is scratched, bow and pendant are heavily scratched and discoloured, bow is loose.
