Lot Description

An Oriental purse and box. The first of axe-head form, the hide body with brass mounts and iron 'blade', 3.3", (8.5cm) wide, the second a shagreen box of oval form decorated in low relief with gilt lacquer bords perching upon bamboo, 3", (7.5cm), (2).

1. Hide is rubbed to top edge and reverse, general fading and cracking. Rusting to iron 'blade', brasswork needs cleaning.
2. Splits to 'corners' where sharkskin fits over wooden carcase. Scattered brown marks. Slight warping to cover. Box contains a blank wooden panel.
