An early 19th century tortoiseshell bow-front tea caddy. The shaped moulded hinged cover inset with an engraved white metal plaque, the sectional veneers united by conforming line inlay, opening to reveal a red velvet-lined cover above two storage compartments, the whole upon flared base and four ball feet, paper label to underside "FROM GILROY'S IRONMONGERY WAREHOUSE 50 NEW STREET BIRMINGHAM", 7.5" wide x 5.75" high, (19cm x 14.5cm).

Condition Report
Some veeners have signs of repairs. Some chips are patched with later tortoiseshell. Some minor losses near lock. Some line inlay is lifting and has minor damage. The lids have bowed, with minor veneer losses. The knob handles may have been changed. The foil lining is incomplete, and the velvet lining is probably later.
