Lot Description

A Victorian treen 'life-preserver'. Of flexible 'truncheon' form, having a ribbed ball terminal on a hide attachment and wooden shaft, the handle with ribbed grip, 15.5", (39cm) long, sold with handwritten note of provenance dated March 1919: "This life preserver to be given to Betsy at my death in trust for Jack Burnie to be lept as an heirloom belonging to his great grandfather William Hall".
