Ernest Thompson 19th century oil on canvas, depicting an elderly lady wearing a red head scarf and shawl, selling oranges from a wicker basket lined with an edition of The Birmingham Post, signed and dated lower right hand corner, titled verso 'Penury' and dated March 1875. 11.5" x 9.5" (29cm x 24cm)

The painting appears to have been stored in the damp, it has visible discolouration, almost like a grey damp film, this we believe would clear with a professional clean. The paint is also crazing and lifting in some areas. Around the edge of the canvas there are some minor losses and marks. Frame is in poor order with losses and damages.
