ROLEX - a stainless steel manual wind chronograph gentleman's Oyster wrist watch circa 1940, the black dial with hourly applied luminous Arabic numerals, subsidiary minute and seconds registers to three and nine o'clock respectively, gilt minute track, all surrounded by an outer telemeter scale, circular shaped "monobloc" case, reference number 3525, serial number 185972, fitted to a non-original brown leather strap with gold plated pin buckle, signed Valjoux calibre 23. Case diameter 35mm.
The so-called "monobloc" Rolex Oyster Chronograph, ref. 3525, represents a significant step forwards for Rolex’s chronographs of the 1940s. The heart of this timepiece is Valjoux’s indomitable calibre 23, a high quality little engine used by a variety of makers. With the greater strength and superior water resistance provided by the case construction and the excellence of the movement, it was little surprise many of these pieces found their way onto the wrists of serving personnel during World War 2.

Condition Report
Rolex wrist watch, manual wind movement and chronograph complication are currently functioning, balance spring appears to be slightly out of flat and some of the coils are sticking together, balance action is poor, movement shows signs of tarnishing to the plates and bridges, signs of previous intervention and dried oil sinks, it is our recommendation that this watch be serviced, hand setting is currently functioning, very light pitting and tiny marks to the dial, luminous paint to the hour markers is marked and partially eroded to areas, tiny marks to the hands, seconds hand is discoloured, glass is heavily scratched with heavy pressure fracturing, it is also heavily cracked and chipped to the bottom edge of the glass between six and eight o'clock, case has medium scratches and tiny dints, plating to one of the chronograph pushers is completely worn away to the top, strap is creased and worn with debris to the underside, plating to the pin buckle is heavily worn, rusting and tarnishing also to the pin buckle.

Due to the opening of this case back we recommend that this watch is sealed by an authorised technician before use near water.
