Charles Robinson, (1870-1937)
'Vignette', a miniature watercolour
depicting two figures in a Venetian gondola beside a portico,
signed lower right,
inscribed verso "Vignette by Charles Robinson,
brother of W. Heath Robinson and T. Heath Robinson",
4" x 2.75", (10cm x 7cm),
in gilt frame under glass.
Charles Robinson was a well-known book illustrator whose works included Robert Louis Stevenson's 'A Child's Garden of Verses', Lewis Carroll's 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland', a version of 'Grimm's Fairy Tales' and also Frances Hodgson Burnett's 'The Secret Garden'. He was elected to the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1932.
