A good mid 19th century two-train boulle bracket clock
Manufactured and retailed by James Grohe, Wigmore Street, London, (1832-1867).
The 5.5-inch decorated gilt brass dial with cellular Arabic minute ring, Roman inner ring and circular centre panel inscribed "GROHE WIGMORE STREET LONDON", the movement stamped GROHE PARIS 9107', half-hour striking on a coiled wire gong, the arched with bevelled convex glazed bezel over foliate cut brasswork (including to rear door) and cast surround with conforming apron on a boulle plinth and four leaf-backed paw feet, 15.25", (38.5cm) high, with original pendulum numbered 9107.
Britten (p.467) records "James Grohe, 1832-67, Wigmore St; watch, clock and chronom. maker".
