Lot Description

A nineteenth century pair of continental bottle coasters, each of circular form with floral, foliate and shell embossed rim and pierced sides, mirror base with outer gadroon border. Struck with '13' to each base rim (possibly meaning 13 lothige indicating a fineness of .812), also struck with maker's mark 'W.C.H & S'. Maximum rim diameter measures 5 1/2 inches (14 cm).

Both coasters display general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  Some heavier tarnishing and remnants of polish to the embossed areas.  Some small surface dints and bumps.  Some dark marks and patches to the mirror plates.  Some wear to the fabric on the underside.  Struck marks are clear and legible.  Possibly German, Polish or Austro-Hungarian.
