Lot 348

Lot Description

A late nineteenth century Russian silver mug of cylindrical form with beaded rim and spreading base, decorated with a continuous band of strapwork style motifs with initialled central panel, the handle with oval thumbpiece. Struck to the underside with Assayer's mark 'A.K' (? partly distorted) over 1880, Standard mark '84' and Town mark for Moscow, alongside a Master's mark similar to that for Vasily Pulyartky (or Pulyatky, Moscow 1883-1917), the Standard mark and Master's mark are repeated on the handle.  Maximum height including thumbpiece measures 3 inches (7.5 cm), weight 5.42 ozt (168.4 grams).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The mug displays general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Quite heavy tarnishing is visible to some areas and it would benefit from a clean and polish.    The main rim is very slightly misshapen near to the thumbpiece.  The underside of the thumbpiece and the top of the handle are very black in appearance, maybe a possible repair?  There is some slight loss of definition and rounding to the beading but it is generally still good, as is the strapwork decoration.  A couple of slight surface dints and bumps.  Some of the struck marks are a little distorted.
