Lot Description

A late nineteenth century Russian white metal-mounted icon, the oblong panel decorated with Christ Pantokrator, his right hand raised in blessing, his left holding the New Testament, within stamped white metal oklad having an arched surround and on plush backing. Russian hallmarks for Moscow 1889, the standard mark of 84 and Cyrillic maker's mark. Height measuring 5 1/4 inches (13.5 cm).

The item displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use.  The mount is lifting in several places and some splits and tears are visible.  There is some loss of surface detail.  Deeper marks and scratches are visible and also some crazing to the head and hands of Christ.  General wear and fading to the backing.  Some distortion to marks but still legible.
