Lot 357

Lot Description

A Victorian cased pair of silver and ivory handled fish servers, foliate scroll engraving to the knife blade and fork prongs, further foliate decoration to each ferrule leading to an acanthus leaf moulded ivory handle with crested terminal. Silver hallmarked John Roberts, Sheffield 1850. Length of knife measures 13 3/4 inches (35 cm).

Export issue: Yes

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both items display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Some light tarnishing to the silver sections and some deeper scratches and nicks are visible.  The engraved decoration is still quite bright.  More wear and some rounding to the edges.  The fork prongs have faired quite well, as has the tip of the knife blade.  The hallmarks are clear and legible.

Vertical splits are visible in both ivory handles and the crests are worn and very faint in places.  The case is in poor condition.
