Lot 440

Lot Description

A French pair of menu holders, each of circular, gilded form with beaded rim enclosing a hand painted panel behind glass, one depicting a pheasant in flight, the other a sprinting hare, hinged stand to the reverse with scroll edge. Struck marks to reverse including the French guarantee mark of an eagle or a boar, maker's mark for Paul Guillon (1899-1924), and a further indistinct mark. Rim diameter measures 1 5/8 inches (4 cm).

Total lot weight: No

Both menu holders display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Some wear to gilding, especially around edges.  Hinges on the stand are in good working order.  On the hare menu holder, the stand is a little dinted and misshapen, so that the upper section no longer lays flat.  Contact marks visible to reverse, caused by the stand.  Hand painted panels appear in fairly good condition.  Struck marks are mainly legible.
