Lot Description

A nineteenth century Portuguese snuff box modelled as a book with engine turned decoration and scroll surround. Marked to the lid lip with a crowned P for Oporto, alongside a maker's mark IR and IX. Length measuring 3 1/2 inches (9 cm), weight 3.7 ozt (117 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Minor dints. Some of the engine turned decoration and engraving is completely worn. Cracks/holes have formed either side of the hinge. The lid rises a little in the closed position. Portuguese marks to the lid lip are partly distorted.
