Lot Description

A Victorian silver cruet stand of oval form, decorated with a band of floral garlands and twin opposed vacant cartouche, within beaded borders and raised above four foliate scrolled and beaded feet, the central stem leading to a 'C' scroll shape handle with conforming foliate and bead decoration, the stand holding four glass bottles with stoppers, one fitted with a silver condiment spoon, and three further glass bottles with silver mounts. Stand hallmarked Henry Wilkinson & Co., Sheffield 1874, part hallmarks to silver mounts are quite distorted but all with same maker. Also with a single silver plated condiment spoon. Maximum height of stand measures 9 1/2 inches (24 cm).

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

The cruet stand and bottles all display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Some light tarnishing to the silver.  Remnants of polish are visible, also a seam line to the main stand.  There is slight loss of detail to the decoration, and considerable loss to the foliate decoration on the central stem where there are also floods of solder, indicating possible repairs.  Various surface nicks and rim and edge chips to the glass bottles, some larger than others.  There is partial distortion and rubbing to some of the hallmarks but they are mainly legible.  Some of the silver mounts are not struck with a date letter but they are all Victorian, Sheffield Assay and with same maker.
