Lot Description
An early 19th century carnelian intaglio. The carnelian carved to depict Ganymede and the eagle, to the detachable mount and later memorial band. Band with 18ct gold hallmarks for London, 1871. Total weight 9.3gms.
Originally part of the Poniatowski collection, sold through Christies on the 29th April, 1839, as lot 33.

Condition Report
The lot is in good overall condition with light scratches in keeping with general wear. The band has been repaired/resized, partially obliterating the "In Memory" design, traces of black enamel remain to outside of band. Personal inscription, only partially legible, dated 1871. The piece is also carved with an amphora and a spurious Greek signature. Ring size N.
