A good set of Sampson Mordan & Co postal or letter scales, the stepped circular weight pan stamped 'BOOK POST UP TO 5LBS ONE HALF PENNY FOR EVERY TWO OUNCES', opposing on oblong letter plate stamped with rates, on beam support stamped 'S. MORDAN & CO LONDON', the fruitwood base with three wells housing eight stacking weights from 1/4oz. to 12oz. (no 1/2oz., the base 10.5" x 5" (26.5cm x 13cm).
