Signed and dated 1911 upper right
Inscribed 'Franz Goethe Berlin' to the canvas verso, with exhibition label printed 'Grosse Berliner Kunst-Ausstellung 1911'

Franz Ferdinand Goethe was born in 1851 in Bladian, Eastern Prussia. He served as an Assistant Professor ("Hilfslehrer") at the Königliche Kunstschule (Royal Art School) Berlin, from 1881-1890. Goethe is believed to have exhibited works in the period 1893-1912 at The Grosse Berliner Kunst-Ausstellung (Berlin International Art Exhibition). According to the Staatliche Museen, Berlin, this work was exhibited in 1911, as per the label. "Feuerzauber" roughly translates as 'Magic Fire'.
