Mrs Wilkinson (Barbara Jessop), (1697-1768)
A good mid 18th century oval miniature on ivory, depicting Mary Queen of Scots, modelled bust length facing to sinister, in ermine trimmed robes, inscribed verso, 2.2" x 2.6", (5.5cm x 6.7cm), in oval brass frame.

Barbara Jessop was the daughter of William Jessop of Broomhall, Sheffield, and Mary Darcy, and married Andrew Wilkinson of Boroughbridge, Member for Alldborough and Principle Storekeeper of the Ordnance, in 1723.
Three miniatures by this artist were sold at Christie's Country House Sale dispersal of Newnham Hall, 11th July 1994, lot 271, where stated, "John and Isabella (Nee Jessop) Jell had seven children ... these miniatures were painted by Isabella's sister Barbara".
