A Welsh mid 19th century mahogany-cased 8-day painted dial longcase clock with moon phase
(William) Meredith, Merthyr Tydvil
The 13-inch break-arched Roman dial with subsidiary seconds dial, inscribed 'Meredith MERTHYR TYDVIL' (sic), the spandrels and hemispheres painted with buildings beneath lunar calendar arch and rolling moon painted with a ship and windmill, the movement with anonymous false-plate, rack-striking on a bell, the case having an arched hood with wavy cresting and inner door surround between spirally-reeded columns, the trunk with matching columns on ogee bracket feet, 90.5" (230cm) high. This maker is recorded at High Street in Slater's Commercial Directory, 1858-9.

Condition Report
Dial- Discolouration to arch, minor edge flaking. Movement- Needs clean and overhaul. Case- A couple of minor splits to door frame, light creases to panel, small edge losses to base panel crossbanding, strip of crossbanding missing to trunk door inlay, no back legs. Sold with two weights plus pendulum.
