Lot Description
A Victorian electrotype model of the Milton Shield, the oval form decorated with various scenes from John Milton's poem 'Paradise Lost', narrating the conflict between Heaven and Hell. Signed Morel-Ladeuil Fecit 1866 and Elkington & Co. Height measuring 33 1/2 inches (85 cm).

Condition Report
The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Large remnants of soft solder to the reverse, from various hanging adaptations - ring suspension remaining. Two drilled holes to edge, again from previous mountings. In a couple of areas the shield has small splits with soft solder visible. Dents to shield edge which has become a misshapen. Some patches to the rim interior. Areas of much heavier tarnishing and toning.
