A Victorian silver wine jug, the bulbous body with embossed fluting and swags to the Bacchus mask mounted spout with hinged cover and lid, crested, and leather covered handle. Hallmarked Robert James Chaplin & Sons, London 1890. Maximum height measuring 8 1/4 inches (21 cm), weight 25.9 ozt (807 grams).

The lot displays general surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnishing commensurate with the age and use. Knock, dent to base and wobbles slightly. Heavier tarnishing in some areas. Dent to the hinge spout cover. Hinge allows some sideways movement. Minor dints and bumps. Maker's mark to the body worn, part hallmarks present to the lid and spout.
