Lot Description

A George III silver chamberstick, the stylised urn-shape holder, to the circular base and angular handle, with replacement Georgian snuffer and detachable nozzle. Chamberstick hallmarked Samuel & George Whitford, London 1806. Diameter of base 5 3/8 inches (13.7 cm). Gross weight 10.05 ozt (312.75 grams).

Good overall condition with scratches, very small dents and tarnish in keeping with age and use. Nozzle and snuffer are later replacements. Both pieces have Georgian duty marks. Nozzle has lion passant mark and maker's mark possibly for John Schofield, maker's mark partially worn. Nozzle fits well into vessel. The snuffer has hallmarks including the duty mark and a letter S, along with a further hallmark, all marks significantly worn. Green discolouration to finial, possible repairs to handle and finial.
