Lot Description

A George III silver vinaigrette, of arched oblong form with stippled borders, the lid with floral scrolls surrounding a personal engraving, the gilded interior with diamond pierced hinged grille, hallmarked John Lawrence & Co., Birmingham 1817.  Together with a George IV example of oblong form with suspension loop, engraved lid and base with initialled cartouche, opening to reveal a gilded rose and thistle embossed hinged grille, hallmarked Thomas Bartleet, Birmingham, 1821.  Respective lengths 2.5 cm and 2.2 cm (excluding suspension), gross combined weight 11.2 grams. (2).

Postage: Auction Default

Weight: No

Total lot weight: No

Both vinaigrettes display general surface scratches, marks and wear commensurate with the age and use.  Heavy tarnishing is visible and both would benefit from a clean and polish.  More wear around edges and some slight loss of detail to decoration.  Some minor surface dints and bumps.  All hinges are working.  General wear to the gilded interiors of both.  Some rubbing and slight distortion to hallmarks but they are all still legible.
