Lot Description

A late Victorian silver mounted pietra dura stand, of square outline, the panel of geometric design forming a sunburst within a mosaic surround, to the geometric scrolling engraved silver sides, supported on a wooden base and four bun feet. Hallmarked Sheffield 1879, the maker's mark worn. Length 9 1/2 inches (24.1 cm).

Good overall condition with surface scratches, marks, wear and tarnish commensurate with age and use. The centre of the pietra dura panel is worn, possibly replacement. The panel uses malachite, various marbles and jaspers and other stone. Minor abrasion. Three cracks to the black surround, minor associated nicks. Maker's mark is extremely worn, believed to be HA. Remaining hallmarks slightly worn, legible.
