Lot Description

A large Japanese Satsuma vase and cover.
Late Meiji/Taisho period, circa 1920, the domed cover surmounted by a seated figure, over gilt-enriched diaperwork, the ovoid body having a flared 'linenfold' rim and with conforming diaperwork frieze and collar, over painted decoration of sparrows perching and in flight, the ground shading from pink to blue, above a further frieze, apparently unmarked beneath, 28", (71cm) high overall.

Some shrinkage where figure meets domed cover. Minor losses to hands of figure. Some losses to gilt edges of collar. Slight flaw to sky above one bird. Very fine crazing. Overall still good.
